I find the nearest room for Ryder to pee in. It’s while I’m standing there watching him pee on the pad of fake grass that I really start to wonder how you’d clean something like this. Or if it even is cleaned…

It must be.

Right?

I mean it’s not just pee that these things get caught under.

I take a step off the fake grass, back on to the marble-tiled floor in front of the entrance. After Ryder’s done, we take a walk through the airport close to our gate. I stop at the Panera and grab a cheese Danish, bottle of water, and two empty bowls, and head back to our old seat. Miraculously still empty.

“Here you go, buddy. Sorry about the wait.”

I wasn’t worried about Ryder needing to eat much on the flight, but I still asked Mr. Allan if he could pack a small Ziploc bag of some dry food, just in case.

Guess my gut was right.

And another look at the kiosk tells me the flight has been delayed again. There are no flight attendants around this time. I guess they finally got tired of people asking them what’s going on.

Then my phone dings.
